Dye sublimation is a popular printing method used to press custom graphics onto fabric substrates. Do you know that you can also print on other materials like license plates, mugs, or snowboards with this printing method?

You can, however, directly imprint your graphics on the rigid substrates. You need to spray a special polymer-based coating on the surface of the items first. Dye sublimation only works on surfaces that can accept and hold the dyes. Even with fabric, you can’t print on any type of fabric. Polyester cloth suits best for this kind of print processing.

Surfaces of the mentioned items differ from each other, making the temperature and pressure requirements different for each of them. Heat and pressure are vital in making the whole process work. First, you have the printed heat transfer paper sublimated to the hard substrate wherein the image becomes permanently embedded onto the surface of the item. Because of that, the graphic image won’t fade easily. This is why dye sublimation has slowly become a favorite of most companies that use fancy graphics for promotional use.
